The era of major updates for Baldur's Gate 3 has officially come to an end. Larian Studios has ceased development on expansions for its acclaimed RPG and reallocated all resources to a new project that, according to the developers, will surpass all of the studio's previous works in scope.

In an exclusive interview with GameSpot, studio CEO Swen Vincke revealed that Larian is already "in the thick of it" developing the new game. He described the project as "truly insanely ambitious", yet noted it’s making excellent progress despite its technical complexity.

As part of a new strategy, the studio has radically overhauled its production approach: Larian is now developing two games in parallel. This move aims to eliminate lengthy gaps between pre-production and active development phases, which previously slowed progress on past projects. Though managing multiple titles simultaneously demands careful coordination, leadership is confident this will enable the studio to release high-quality RPGs at a steady pace without overburdening staff.

Narrative remains a top priority for Larian. To strengthen this focus, the studio has assembled a dedicated, large-scale team working exclusively on crafting in-game stories. True to his characteristic humor, Vincke joked that he hopes to reveal the game before 2030—otherwise, "his wife will divorce him".
