After more than ten years, the iconic mobile game is making a comeback โ this time with no connections to cryptocurrency or Web3 technologies. The updated version is available exclusively on the EGS and is distributed for free, supported solely through advertising and in-game purchases.
The previous attempt to revive the game sparked a wave of criticism due to its integration with cryptocurrency economics and the Telegram platform โ the situation escalated to the point where the original creator publicly distanced himself from the project. The current relaunch appears more transparent: the publisher has officially confirmed that the game does not and will not use Web3 technologies.
Notably, the organization Flappy Bird Foundation obtained the brand rights through an abandoned trademark registration process โ they have no direct connection to the original game's creator. The first version of the game, released in 2013, became a viral hit with over 50 million downloads but was removed from app stores due to controversies surrounding its allegedly addictive gameplay. Though, judging by the number of views on the YouTube trailer announcing the game's return โ to put it mildly, hardly anyone seems to care anymore.
