Gacha mechanics are a cornerstone of Honkai Star Rail, and it seems that miHoYo (now HoYoverse) is planning to give players more control over their character pulls. Recent leaks suggest significant changes to the banner system starting with version 3.2, offering a fresh approach to how players interact with the game's gacha mechanics.
According to insider reports from Sakura Haven, the upcoming 3.2 update will introduce a customizable pity system for limited banners. Instead of being locked into a standard pool of characters for 50/50 pity pulls, players will be able to select their preferred characters from a limited set. These chosen characters can partially or entirely replace the default pool, giving players more agency in determining their rewards.

At present, the 50/50 pity pool consists of 7 standard characters.Starting with version 3.2, this will be replaced by a 'Group' of characters from which you can choose. You’ll select 7 characters from this 'Group,' and they will form your personalized 50/50 pity pool. This means that when you lose a 50/50 roll, you’ll receive a character from your customized pool instead of the default standard lineup.
The 'Group' itself will initially include the 7 standard characters plus a limited selection of additional characters to choose from.
This update could significantly enhance the player experience by reducing frustration and increasing flexibility. By allowing players to tailor their pity pool, miHoYo is addressing one of the most common complaints about gacha systems: the randomness of losing pity rolls. With the ability to prioritize specific characters, players will have a better chance of obtaining units that suit their playstyle or preferences.
However, details about which characters will be included in the selectable pool remain unclear. It’s uncertain whether the pool will feature past limited characters, current banner units, or even entirely new additions.
The proposed changes reflect miHoYo’s ongoing efforts to refine Honkai Star Rail and make it more player-friendly. By introducing a customizable pity system, the developers are acknowledging the importance of player choice in gacha games. This move could set a new standard for how similar systems are designed in other titles.
While the exact implementation and impact of this feature remain to be seen, the announcement has already sparked excitement within the community. Fans are eager to see how these changes will affect their gameplay experience when Honkai Star Rail 3.2 launches.
