Metacritic has compiled a list of the top 20 highest-rated games of the first half of 2024. The site’s editors did not include collections, ports of recent releases, expansions, mobile titles, or extended editions in the rankings. As a result, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, with a score of 95 out of 100, was not included in the list. Otherwise it could have taken the first place.

The top spot in the ranking was taken by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with a score of 92 out of 100. The second position was occupied by the Metroidvania Animal Well, scoring 91 out of 100. This game was the first release by the publisher Videogamedunkey. In third place was another indie hit, the poker roguelite Balatro by a solo developer, with an average score of 90 out of 100.

Fourth place went to the fighting game Tekken 8, and the top five were rounded out by the Japanese RPG Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Among the top-20 we can highlight Persona 3 Reloaded, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Dragon's Dogma 2.
