Apparently, Microsoft's claims that they weren't developing an updated Xbox Series console were false. Company documents revealed during a court case with the FTC show details about both an interim Xbox generation and the next generation of the console.

The Xbox Series X Refresh model, codenamed Brooklin, is set to be released in October of next year. This is around the same time rumors suggest the PlayStation 5 Pro will launch. The console will have a hybrid processor using the same architectures currently in use, namely Zen 2 and RDNA 2. It will support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

The console is expected to come with a 2 TB storage drive. Its power supply capacity will be reduced by 15%, and in standby mode, its energy consumption will only be 20% of the current model's.

Notable features include a new design and the absence of an optical drive. Importantly, the price won't increase; the new console will still cost $500. This suggests the current Series X might be phased out, as a price drop would make it compete with the Series S.

Additionally, Microsoft is developing a new controller codenamed Sebile. It seems to have features similar to the current Sony Dualsense.

As for the next generation of Xbox targeting 2028, the details are intriguing. Based on the documents, Microsoft is deciding whether to stick with the AMD Zen architecture (which would be Zen 6 by then). Moreover, the new Xbox might have an NPU unit, which we haven't seen in consoles yet.
