Unknown Worlds has officially unveiled Subnautica 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the iconic underwater survival game, with a roadmap for its Early Access launch in 2025. The developers released the first gameplay footage in a video titled Road to Early Access , offering fans an exciting preview of what’s to come. While the exact release date remains unconfirmed, the studio has emphasized that this installment will be the most ambitious entry in the franchise yet.
Subnautica 2 continues the series’ tradition of underwater exploration and survival on a mysterious water-covered alien planet while introducing groundbreaking features. Among the most notable additions is a cooperative mode that allows up to three players to team up and explore the depths together. Base-building mechanics have been expanded and refined to support collaborative gameplay, making teamwork an essential part of progression.
According to lead designer Anthony Gallegos, this is the largest and most ambitious project in the Subnautica franchise. At the start of Early Access, players can expect a completely new world filled with revamped survival and crafting mechanics, advanced transportation options, and terrifying new sea creatures. The game will also introduce updated systems that enhance immersion and challenge, ensuring both newcomers and veterans will find something fresh to discover.
Players who join Early Access will have the unique opportunity to actively shape the game’s development by providing feedback and testing new features. The developers have committed to regular updates throughout the Early Access phase, including the addition of new biomes, structures, submersible vehicles, and locations. Each stage of development will be documented and shared through ongoing video blogs, giving fans an inside look at how the game evolves over time.
Subnautica 2 will launch on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox Series X/S, with availability through the Game Pass subscription service.
