EVO Japan is usually a big stage for fighting game news, and this year, the Tekken team came prepared with updates. Starting May 13, Tekken 8 will get new cosmetic items and some balance adjustments. But the spotlight moment was the reveal of a new DLC fighter: Fahkumram, the towering Muay Thai boxer who debuted in Tekken 7.

However, the fan reaction wasn’t exactly excited. Many players remember how hated Fahkumram was in the last game, mostly due to his overpowered design. Now, they’re worried history is about to repeat itself. But the frustration goes deeper than just one character.

Since the start of Season 2, some fans feel that Tekken 8 has lost its spark. Complaints about balance issues and the game’s overall direction have been building up, and Fahkumram’s return felt like the last straw for some. Truthfully, it’s hard to name a DLC character that would make everyone happy—unless it’s Tifa Lockhart, of course. Even popular picks like Armor King, Kunimitsu, or Marduk would stir debate.

For now, it’s clear that the relationship between the community and the developers is strained—and the announcements at EVO Japan didn’t help much.
