The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) predicts an increase in the cost of electronics in the U.S. by 25-68% with the arrival of Donald Trump. The reason for this is the desire of the new US president to increase economic pressure on China by increasing duties on imports of various goods.
If Trump manages to realize his intentions and impose tariffs from 10% to 20% (from 60% to 100% in the case of China) on imported goods, then ordinary Americans will face a price increase: on laptops - by 45-68%, on game consoles - by 40-58%, on monitors and TVs - by 31-48%, and on smartphones - by 26-40%.
In addition, Trump plans to impose duties of 25% on all goods from Mexico and Canada, thus trying to incentivize companies to move production to the US.
Experts believe that Trump's plan is ineffective, as moving production to the U.S. will cost too much for most companies, which will eventually depend on importing components from other countries anyway and will simply move their plants to regions with a more favorable investment climate. For the end consumer, including gamers, the prices of electronics and consoles may even go down.
