The fast-paced samurai action game Ghost of Yotei will reach players this coming fall, with the creators promising various innovations. The development team has placed special emphasis on expanding the combat arsenal: this time, players will need to master not only traditional blades but also significantly more powerful types of weaponry.
The game's story will transport players three centuries forward from the events of the original, to an era when gunpowder and firearms became firmly entrenched in Japanese warfare. As creative director Nate Fox notes, while the katana remains "the foundation of martial arts", the developers concluded that "the ability to blow something up in a video game is never excessive".
In addition to explosive devices, Ghost of Yotei will also feature entirely new types of weapons, meticulously recreated from historical models of the late 16th century.
It was fundamentally important for us to preserve not only the authentic spirit of samurai films with their cult of sword mastery but also to provide players with an entirely new level of interaction with both weapons and the game world.
Creative director Jason Connell further clarified that each type of weapon will feature unique combat mechanics and special tactical advantages. This innovation promises to completely transform the variety of battles and the overall gameplay experience.
Judging by the recent trailer, the destructive power of fire will become one of the key visual themes: impressive scenes of burning forests, blazing bridges, and besieged fortresses strongly suggest that battles in the new installment will take on truly epic proportions.
