Intel is reportedly planning to cut around 21,000 jobs, representing nearly 20% of its entire workforce. According to Bloomberg, the announcement will be made by April 27, 2025, as part of a massive restructuring and an overhaul of its management structure.

This marks Intel's largest round of layoffs in years and the first major decision under the leadership of new CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Earlier in 2024, Intel had already laid off about 19,000 employees. By the end of that year, its total staff numbered approximately 108,000.

Sources claim the main objective of this move is to establish a more efficient management model in which core engineering teams report directly to top-level executives. The shake-up is also expected to reduce layers of middle management, which have been blamed for slowing innovation and decision-making.

Intel’s financial performance has been underwhelming in recent years, with falling revenue and increasing losses. Analysts remain skeptical, noting that even with the changes, the company may continue to underperform compared to its historic profit margins.

Reuters previously reported that Lip-Bu Tan was considering significant shifts in both Intel's internal structure and its semiconductor manufacturing strategy. These upcoming layoffs are part of his broader vision to streamline the company and revitalize its competitive edge.
