Following the release of Ghost of Tsushima, this location gained worldwide fame. After the 2020 typhoon, fans of the game raised over 27 million yen (≈$180,000) to restore the shrine, demonstrating exemplary respect for Japanese culture.

However, in recent years the shrine has experienced acts of vandalism, rude treatment of staff, and disrespect for religious traditions. Now completely prohibited on the premises are casual tourist visits, as well as photography and videography.

"We can no longer tolerate the destruction of Japanese culture under the guise of tourism," shrine representatives declared. In the future, access will be strictly regulated and granted only to genuine believers.
