You can't argue that one of the biggest symbols of the Star Wars universe is Yoda. He first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, which hit theaters back in 1980. Even then, he stood out thanks to one big thing: the way he mixes up his words when he talks.

At the end of April, George Lucas showed up at a special 45th-anniversary event. During a Q&A, someone asked him why Yoda speaks the way he does. Lucas explained that he wanted people to really listen to what Yoda was saying. If Yoda talked in regular English, Lucas thought fans might not pay much attention. So he decided to shake things up with that unforgettable speech style.

Lucas called Yoda "the philosopher of the movie", and because his words meant that much, the creator of the space opera needed to find something that children wouldn't ignore. To be fair, George passed that test with flying colours!

Lucas was also asked which new character from The Empire Strikes Back was his favorite. He refused to pick one, joking that it would be like choosing a favorite among 12 of your own kids.
