Hollywood continues to embrace video game adaptations, and one of the most exciting projects on the horizon is the movie version of Split Fiction. Actress Sydney Sweeney has been tapped to star in this film adaptation of the critically acclaimed game developed by Hazelight and published by Electronic Arts. The project will be helmed by director Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians while the screenplay is being crafted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creative minds behind Deadpool & Wolverine.

The storyline of Split Fiction revolves around two authors, Mio and Zoi, who find themselves transported into fantastical realms inspired by their own novels. The game is celebrated for its innovative cooperative gameplay, which features split-screen mechanics, unique character abilities, and challenging platforming elements. While it’s still unclear which role Sydney Sweeney will take on, her involvement as both an actress and executive producer underscores her commitment to the project.

Production duties will be shared by Story Kitchen (formerly dj2 Entertainment) and Electric Somewhere. Released on March 6, 2025, Split Fiction quickly became a commercial success, selling over 2 million copies within its first week. Its popularity caught the attention of studios even during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March, sparking a bidding war for the film rights.

Story Kitchen has made a name for itself by adapting beloved video games into cinematic experiences. Among its portfolio are films based on Sonic, It Takes Two, ToeJam & Earl, an animated Tomb Raider project, and an upcoming adaptation of Streets of Rage. With such a strong track record, expectations are high for Split Fiction, blending interactive storytelling with the magic of Hollywood filmmaking.
