Overwatch 2 has now formally announced the dates of tests. Role Queue, the initial 6v6 Overwatch 2 experiment, will run from December 17 to January 7, 2025. Teams of two players are assigned to each role for the duration of the experiment. From January 21 to February 4, the second test, known as Min 1, Max 3, will be administered. In this game, each team can have up to three players in any one role, but they must have different roles. As long as their current role has at least one other person in it, fans can switch roles at any time in this game mode.
These 6v6 game modes are currently only going to be accessible for a short period of time. Overwatch 2, however, has stated that it will be closely monitoring the popularity of the 6v6 experiments and may eventually reinstate them or even make them permanent fixtures in the FPS alongside 5v5. Playing a lot of matches is a good way for fans to tell Blizzard that they want to see 6v6 remain around for good.
