No Man’s Sky has been mentioned many times in various articles on this site. Without exaggeration, it’s one of the most significant video games in the industry! This project demonstrated the developers’ dedication and effort, revealed incredible universe and planet generation technologies, and showed gamers what a true sandbox game is.

Not long ago, a major milestone occurred in the game that changed everything—the second part of the massive Worlds update was released, making No Man’s Sky even bigger, more diverse, and more beautiful.

Mysterious Depths

The main idea behind Worlds Part II was a complete overhaul of underwater locations. Previously, oceans and lakes didn’t attract much player interest. There were some resources hidden in the depths, and you could build a base there—but why bother? It was rather dull. However, now everything has changed dramatically.

First of all, the developers made the oceans deeper, and when I talk about depth, I mean eternal darkness and massive pressure. Surviving down there is incredibly difficult, but the game now includes special suit modules for this purpose. An additional indicator—pressure level—will appear during dives.

Of course, you won’t be left in total darkness. Down there, the sun never shines, so the flora and fauna have adapted to emit light. Corals and some creatures glow from within.

Shallow-water lighting has also been reworked, and it looks stunning!

New fauna has been introduced as well. Underwater worlds are inhabited not only by new plants but also by new creatures. In moderate depths, you might encounter new species of fish and even seahorses.

The deeper you go, the scarier and larger the inhabitants become. How about gigantic squids? They look amazing!

Now, building underwater bases is more justified than ever, and the gameplay is reminiscent of what you can experience in Subnautica.

New Planets

Naturally, new planets have been added—hundreds of new star systems, including a new type: purple star systems. There, you can find a new type of oceanic planets, as well as entirely new celestial bodies such as gas giants.

Gas Giants

To reach these systems, you need to complete the storyline and obtain a new type of engine. Believe me, it’s worth it, as you’ll find the best resources in these new systems.

Just like in reality, gas giants have a rocky core. In real life, you’d likely be burned and crushed by gravity, but in the game, you can land there. Deep within these giants, constant storms, lightning, radiation, and high temperatures rage.

Relic Worlds

We’ve already encountered ruins of past civilizations in previous updates. It was a rare but captivating phenomenon. The developers decided to satisfy our thirst for adventure, and Worlds Part II introduces a new type of planet covered in ancient ruins.

Players can find new artifacts and records of these long-lost civilizations.

Other World Improvements

Major changes have affected all planets. A new landscape generation system has been added, bringing even more unique vistas.

For instance, No Man’s Sky now features denser jungles.

In addition, players will encounter worlds heavily influenced by their stars. These are scorching hot, and both flora and fauna have adapted to high temperatures.

Icy planets have also changed. The atmosphere feels colder, lighting has been reworked, and new types of landscapes, plants, and creatures have been added.

To the delight of fans, extreme geological phenomena have been introduced—like geothermal springs, poisonous anomalies, and geysers. The developers went even further and added a new type of toxic world: mushroom spores.

Updated Lighting

Lighting wasn’t just updated underwater. All interior lighting in caves, buildings, and space stations has been improved.

At the same time, performance and loading speeds have been enhanced. Transitioning between orbit and a planet is now seamless, and loading the Anomaly is smoother.

Construction and Progress

Finally, it’s worth mentioning the new modules for upgrades and construction. For example, the Colossus now gets new matter generators, and the scout gets a flamethrower. New types of ships, multi-tools, and character customization options have been added.

Players can also place ancient ruins—such as columns and arches—on their bases.

These changes are far from everything; you can read the full list in the official patch notes. Personally, I recommend trying out the new major update for yourself and enjoying the game!
