The first day of The International 2024 Main Event didn't bring many surprises. It feels like Valve has settled into a routine for these events, and even the return of the tournament to Europe hasn't changed that.

The opening ceremony was... standard. Gabe Newell delighted us with a video message in which he delivered his iconic phrase, "Welcome to The International!"

From a competitive standpoint, there were no major upsets today. In the first elimination match, Team Falcons completely dismantled BB Team. Despite the high individual skill level of the Eastern European team, they were tactically unprepared. BB Team went for a greedy draft, while Falcons responded with their signature early aggression.

Aurora Gaming also couldn't stand up to Xtreme Gaming, as the Chinese team continues its long journey through the lower bracket. In the upper bracket, Gaimin Gladiators made a strong statement by crushing Tundra Esports, securing themselves at least a third-place finish.

The tournament will continue tomorrow, and by the end of the day, three more teams will be eliminated.
