Bethesda has released a video dedicated to Shattered Space, the first story expansion for Starfield. In the video, the developers shared details about the DLC and showcased gameplay footage.

From the start of development, Bethesda planned to create a relatively small but meticulously crafted location in Starfield that would differ from the open galaxy. This location is the planet Va'ruun'kai, which players will visit in the Shattered Space expansion. 

The story of Shattered Space is entirely centered around the life on Va'ruun'kai, meaning the events of the DLC will take place solely on this planet. Shattered Space is about what happens when the pursuit of knowledge goes too far, according to the developers. The thirst for the unknown has led to a catastrophe on the planet, and players will have to uncover its secrets.

The plot revolves around a secret experiment involving gravitational engines that went awry. As a result, a massive hole opened up in space, swallowing a large part of the city of Dazra. The already difficult situation is worsened by a power struggle among local clans. Many politicians are seizing the opportunity to increase their influence, and players will need to untangle local political intrigues. 

Humans aren't the only dangerous beings on the planet. Players will also encounter monsters that have come from the other side, made possible by the catastrophe. Combat in Shattered Space will be more dynamic and chaotic, with enemies acting more aggressively, requiring players to adapt. 

Shattered Space will be released on September 30 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
