According to CD Projekt Red, Ciri will play a major part in The Witcher 4, which is a natural and logical progression of the plot. According to executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega, the change from Geralt to Ciri was motivated by the development of the game series as well as the setting of Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.

Mitrega emphasized that Geralt's storyline is complete in The Witcher 3, paving the way for Ciri, who has significant potential. The character, well developed in the books and games, has a depth and complexity that will allow developers to create new creative possibilities. Director Sebastian Kalemba noted that Ciri's age will give players more freedom to shape her character, something that couldn't be done with the “established” Geralt.

Interestingly, discussions about changing the protagonist began almost a decade ago. This confirms that CD Projekt Red has long seen Ciri as the natural heir to Geralt. Kalemba also added that the new challenges and perspectives facing Ciri will help create an equally epic new saga.

Actor Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt, supported the decision, emphasizing Ciri's rich potential as a central character. Although Geralt will appear in the new game, he will no longer be the key figure, adding emphasis to the new narrative perspective.
