The State of Play 2024 showcase kicked off with a reveal of the online shooter Concord from Firewalk Studios. The developers promise a unique universe with vibrant characters and 5v5 battles. The gameplay trailer evokes battles from Destiny, featuring a responsive movement system and intense gunplay.

However, viewers in the stream chat expressed concerns that the game appears too derivative of existing hits. Many noted similarities to Destiny 2 in terms of weapons, abilities, and gameplay mechanics. Others drew parallels to Overwatch due to the colorful heroic characters and Marvel-esque humor. Some viewers felt the overall aesthetics strongly resembled the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Commentators also expressed disappointment that instead of a single-player campaign, the game is yet another 5v5 online shooter. This sparked fears of potential intrusive monetization tactics like battle passes. Doubts were raised about Concord's ability to stand out amidst the multitude of similar titles in an oversaturated market without offering anything truly novel.

Concord is slated for release on August 23, 2024, for PC and PlayStation 5, with beta testing set to take place in July.
