Following the latest preview of Doom: The Dark Ages, an excerpt from the game’s main menu theme has surfaced online. The track, titled When The Shadows First Lengthened, showcases the medieval essence of the upcoming installment.
The game’s soundtrack is crafted by Finishing Move Inc., a renowned audio production team known for their work on The Callisto Protocol, Borderlands 3 and Microsoft Flight Simulator. A behind-the-scenes video highlights the unconventional instruments used to achieve the game's medieval atmosphere.
Notably, the 2016 Doom soundtrack was composed by Mick Gordon. However, a dispute arose between Gordon and Bethesda, with the composer alleging unpaid wages and unprofessional behavior from executive producer Marty Stratton. Bethesda dismissed these claims, calling them an "unjust portrayal of irreparable professional relations."
As a result, Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods featured compositions by Andrew Hulshult and David Levy. Many fans speculated that they would return for Doom: The Dark Ages, but as it turns out, a different creative team is behind the new game’s score.
