Mouse: P.I. For Hire is a cinematic FPS styled after classic 1930s animation. The entire city of Mouseburg was created using hand-drawn animation - developers rejected mocap technology to preserve the era's characteristic "jittery" art style. The protagonist himself parodies 1940s noir detectives - his dialogue was recorded through a vintage microphone for authenticity. The game follows the misadventures of private investigator Jack Pepper, who unwittingly becomes entangled in a dangerous criminal conspiracy.
The arsenal of futuristic gadgets for restoring order to Mouseburg's grimy streets includes:
- CLEAN-D - a turpentine revolver that literally dissolves enemies with its corrosive chemical mixture
- COOL-D - a cryogenic cannon that instantly freezes targets while perfectly preserving cheese supplies
- MIND-D - a neural emitter that reprograms enemies' consciousness, turning them into loyal allies
Notably, the weapons are based on real 1930s patents (like the "friendship ray"), but with grotesque exaggeration.
The project combines eccentric comedy, vintage art style, and outrageous weaponry. Visual inspiration was drawn from early Fleischer Studios cartoons (such as "Betty Boop"), but with modern polish. The soundtrack features authentic recordings of jazz orchestras from 1937-1942.
The game is scheduled for release in 2025 on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
