Surprising news has come from Sega. One of the most popular (though very niche) game series, Football Manager, will not be getting a new installment for the 2025 season. In an official statement, Sega and Sports Interactive announced the game’s cancellation and confirmed that all preorders would be refunded.
What happened? According to the announcement, the game—already delayed twice—was simply too unfinished. The developers had promised a major technological breakthrough in the new installment, but it seems they were unable to deliver on that vision just yet. This kind of upfront honesty is commendable, especially compared to some sports simulators that sometimes don’t even bother changing the taskbar icon between releases (Yes, NBA 2K, we’re looking at you!).
At the same time, the situation is still disappointing. The developers also confirmed that Football Manager 24 will not be updated with new season data. This could be a big blow for many players, especially considering past stories of successful managers landing real-life jobs at football clubs thanks to their in-game performances. This means that for the next year, only an outdated version of the game will be available.
All that’s left now is to wait for future announcements.
