Call of Duty 2025, rumored to be Black Ops 7, may come with a controversial twist: locking limited-time game modes behind a paid Battle Pass. According to known leaker GhostOfHope, players might need to buy the pass just to play these special modes — not just to unlock their rewards.
This marks a big shift. Right now, limited-time modes (LTMs) are free for everyone, while only cosmetics and bonuses are locked behind passes or premium tracks. But the new system might require payment even for access to the gameplay itself, especially for “high-value” LTMs that feature unique mechanics or crossover content.

Why the change? With Microsoft tightening its budget and Game Pass users growing, Activision might be reworking the monetization model to get more value from players who don’t buy the game outright. That could mean ditching the separate Event Pass and merging everything into a single, more exclusive Battle Pass.
If true, this would be a throwback to earlier CoD days when new maps were locked behind DLC. But fans are already raising concerns about this possible paywall, especially if it means paying more without real gameplay freedom.
