This week, Nintendo shut down the online servers for 3DS and Wii U games, meaning that multiplayer for most of the games on these consoles is no longer possible. As the 13-year period came to an end, lots of fans decided to give their favourite games a proper goodbye by playing one last time.
Players were having fun in the original Super Smash Bros., Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and many other games until the error message popped on their screens.
While some people were able to hold for a couple more hours (they had a connection until they decided to disconnect themselves), we've seen many posts on social media saying thank you to Nintendo for all the happy hours they spent in games.
Now, Nintendo players have to move on together with the more modern consoles. Nintendo Switch is alive and well, and there are lots of rumours that the second generation of this console will be released fairly soon. As of today, it doesn't look like their support will come to an end in the near future.
Unfortunately, some great things must pass. So long, 3DS and Wii U, and thanks for the games!
