Warner Bros. gaming division is currently going through tough times. A major restructuring is swallowing up a lot of projects. First, we learned about the quite surprising closure of Multiversus (despite outstanding beta numbers). Mortal Kombat 1 is in the dark zone of rumous, and now it seems that the Hogwarts Legacy expansion will never see the light of day. At least, this is what Bloomberg and Jason Schreier are reporting.

According to insiders, the main concern and the reason for such a decision is optimization: it looked like the decision makers weren't convinced that the amount of content was enough to justify the DLC's price. One of the key elements of the expansion was supposed to be the return of cut story content related to one of the main character’s companions.
Schreier also confirmed that the Hogwarts Legacy: Definitive Edition was also canceled. However, the plans for sequel (which won’t be a games-as-a-service title) are still on the table.
Hogwarts Legacy is one of the best-selling games in history, with over 34 million copies sold.
