Public attention was immediately drawn to the announcement of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet's unveiling at The Game Awards. However, the initial excitement swiftly descended into a barrage of criticism.

The debate centered on the protagonist and the theme of the game, which part of the public accused of allegedly carrying an “agenda”.

The situation was exacerbated after statements by Neil Druckmann and Tati Gabriel. They tried to defend the game and calm people down, but the statements had the opposite effect, exacerbating the controversy.

The wave of criticism is not diminishing even after 17 days. The announcement trailer polarized the public, gaining an impressive number of “dislikes” on YouTube. On the official PlayStation channel their number exceeded 260 thousand, breaking 90 thousand “likes”. Things are no better on the Naughty Dog channel, where more than 170,000 “no's” prevail over 70,000 “yes's”. In an attempt to stop the escalation, comments on the video have been disabled, but the debate has flared up elsewhere, taking over social media.

Despite the initial difficulties, the fate of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is not a foregone conclusion. Naughty Dog has proven time and time again that it can turn initial criticism into success. The game has a chance to turn expectations upside down.

But this episode highlights a crucial problem for major studios: the difficulty of managing an increasingly demanding audience.
