Reburn Studio has announced the early access release of their project La Quimera. At this stage, the developers intend to carefully study player feedback and systematically work on improving narrative arcs, optimizing game mechanics, adding new game zones, as well as fine-tuning the progression system and gameplay dynamics.
La Quimera is a futuristic first-person shooter with a unique narrative created in collaboration with Nicolas Winding Refn (known for films likeĀ DriveĀ andĀ The Neon Demon) and screenwriter EJA Warren. The events unfold in Nuevo-Caracasāa fictional Latin American metropolis engulfed in technological crisis, corporate schemes, and armed clashes between rival factions.
Players can experience the campaign either solo or in co-op mode for up to four participants. The story focuses on a group of mercenaries caught in the midst of a conflict where elements of mysticism intertwine with cutting-edge combat technologies. Gameplay mechanics include the use of enhanced exosuits with unique capabilities, as well as an expanded weapon modification system.
Originally, La Quimera was scheduled for release on April 25, but the launch had to be shifted to early access due to negative feedback from gaming publications. Critics on the intended release day pointed out an underdeveloped and truncated story campaign, a lack of originality in gameplay, and weak visual execution of the project, with some influential media outlets even calling the game one of the season's biggest disappointments.
Whatās most intriguing is that the early access launch trailer is remarkably well-made, making it hard to spot any red flags: dynamic gameplay, intriguing cutscenes, and an overall impression of a seemingly polished product. However, knowing the backstory (and that the game currently consists of just a few missions lasting 2-3 hours), it becomes glaringly obvious that the trailerās action unfolds across only 3-4 locations, with the same characters repeatedly appearingāalmost as if the trailer relies on just a couple of spliced cutscenes.
