At a Game Developers Conference (GDC) panel today, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke made a shocking announcement to the gaming world. After a very successful release of Baldur’s Gate 3, the studio will completely move away from the series and D&D. So, there won’t be Baldur’s Gate 3 DLCs and no Baldur’s Gate 4.
According to the report from PCGamer, Swen thinks of the Baldur’s Gate as a thing of the past: “Baldur's Gate will always have a warm spot in our heart. We'll forever be proud of it but we're not going to continue in it. We're not going to make new expansions which everybody is expecting. We're not going to make Baldur's Gate 4 which everybody is expecting us to do. We're going to move on. We're going to move away from D&D and we're going to start making a new thing."
Vincke thinks of Larian as the company of big ideas, not creators of DLCs and expansions. The studio has already begun working on its next game. However, Vincke warned that “it is not what you think”. He also added that “It's going to be up to Wizards of the Coast because it's their IP, to find somebody to take over the torch."
