Lead writer at Larian Studios, Adam Smith, has stated that he doesn't care which direction Baldur's Gate 4 takes, as long as it's made with love. According to the writer, it's important that the next installment isn't developed solely to profit off Dungeons & Dragons fans.
Smith expressed hope that the Baldur's Gate series ends up in the hands of a team that truly adores this universe. In his words, Larian loved and still loves the franchise, which is why all the studio's employees treated the third installment with special reverence.

The writer has no doubt that the series can tell many more captivating stories. Smith believes it's crucial that the result is distinctly Baldur's Gate, not just a game set in the Forgotten Realms universe. He feels Larian Studios managed to achieve this, partly due to their immense love for the franchise.
Larian will not be working on Baldur's Gate 4 or an expansion for the third game, as previously stated by studio head Sven Vincke. Hasbro has said they won't rush the development of a sequel in order to find the "right partner". Currently, it's known that Larian Studios is developing two games based on their own IPs. Specific details about these projects remain unknown.
