Media outlets have published previews of the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake based on an hour and a half of gameplay. They were allowed to play through the very first jungle level.

All journalists noted that Konami chose to create a direct remake of the original, without changing its story or levels. The characters deliver the same lines with the same voices, and there are loading screens between locations. The developers did not want to alter the game's creative vision.

The most significant change is the game's transition to Unreal Engine 5, with journalists calling the remake visually impressive. The jungles are much denser, and the level boundaries are better camouflaged. Players can choose between a graphics mode with quality settings at 30 fps and dynamic 4K, or a performance mode. In the latter, the resolution dynamically scales from 1080p.

The controls have been updated to be closer to the layout from Metal Gear Solid 5. For example, camouflage can now be changed during gameplay instead of through the menu. However, players also have the option to use the classic controls. All wounds inflicted on the character will be visible, and if not treated, they will affect Snake's health.

Overall, reviewers agree that the remake will be most appealing to new players and those who haven't played MGS 3 in a long time.
