Indie developer Platypus Entertainment has officially revealed Misery, a brutal survival sandbox shooter that draws inspiration from the bleak tone of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., while introducing base building and psychological horror into the mix. Set in a post-nuclear wasteland, the game focuses on strategic planning, exploration, and surviving nightmarish threats.
Players begin each run with just one minute to gather resources and retreat into a protective underground bunker. This safe haven becomes the player’s main stronghold, where infrastructure like generators, solar panels, and wind turbines must be wired together for power. Rooms can be expanded and customized, while strange mutated plants—each with combat abilities—serve as the primary defense against escalating enemy raids.
Misery’s world is procedurally generated and packed with derelict cities, abandoned military zones, and infected villages. Each zone features unique enemies and a powerful boss that holds one of the essential antenna parts required for final evacuation. Players must leave the bunker daily, venture into hostile zones, and make it back before nightfall. Once the sun sets, the psychological horror begins: the characters’ minds deteriorate, and the environment turns lethally unstable.
According to the debut trailer, Misery is slated for release in June 2025 for PC via Steam.
