The release of the major expansion "The Final Shape" for Destiny 2 took place on June 4, 2024. The expansion is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

The Final Shape expansion serves as the culmination of the main storyline, which began with the first game released in 2014. Players are tasked with ending the war between Light and Darkness by stopping the Witness, a villain who aims to reduce all reality to a single, unchanging order. To accomplish this, the heroes will join the Vanguard on a perilous expedition to the heart of the Traveler.

In addition to the extensive story campaign, The Final Shape introduces the Prismatic subclass, new super abilities, exotic class items, the Salvation's Edge raid, the Pale Heart destination, and numerous types of weapons.

Following the release of The Final Shape, Destiny 2 servers experienced issues. According to feedback, some players are unable to log into the game due to an error, likely caused by the high number of players trying to access the servers. At the time of writing, the online player count for the MMO action game on Steam was 315,000, just 1,500 short of the game's record.
