Lars Bakken, Lead Game Designer for Marathon (previously responsible for PvP design in Halo 3 and Destiny 2), addressed the controversial absence of proximity chat in an exclusive interview with Skarrow9. The developer emphasized that the studio is carefully analyzing all player feedback, and many game aspects may be reconsidered—particularly during the upcoming alpha test, where every participant's opinion will carry weight.

Bakken explicitly stated that Marathon's final version will largely be shaped by community input—down to the content delivery format, which may evolve over time. Many existing mechanics have already undergone numerous internal tests at Bungie, with even recent feedback influencing the project's current state.

The limited alpha test will run from April 23 to May 4—with access granted exclusively to players from the USA and Canada.
