The recent release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on April 22, 2025, introduced a notable change in character creation. Instead of the traditional Male and Female options, players were presented with Body Type 1 and Body Type 2, reflecting a growing trend in modern Western games.
One user attempted to revert this change by uploading a mod that restored the classic gender labels. However, Nexus Mods swiftly disabled comments on the mod’s page and, within 40 minutes, removed it entirely and banned the creator. The quick action sparked debate across the community.

Interestingly, in the original Oblivion, gender affected starting stats. In the remaster, this link was removed, and a new “Origin” system was introduced instead. It allows players to select stat presets that mimic the former gender-based differences, offering choice without using gendered terms.
This is not the first controversial moderation by Nexus. The platform has previously removed mods that replaced pride flags in Spider-Man, altered NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 to be more lore-consistent, and swapped pronouns in Starfield.
