Today, Nintendo held its Direct presentation focused on games for the first Switch. The event was moderately filled with interesting announcements and also served as a good buildup for the next broadcast, which will be dedicated to games for Switch 2. So, what did they show us?
Let's start with a bang — Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. We got a look at the gameplay of the shooter — traveling through alien locations and battling enemies, including a boss fight. The release date wasn’t mentioned in the video, but Nintendo reminded us that Metroid Prime 4 is supposed to release this year.
Another significant announcement was the compilation Patapon 1+2 Replay. Players can look forward to updated versions of Patapon and Patapon 2, which will feature three new difficulty levels and an option to adjust the response time. The release of Patapon 1+2 Replay is set for July 11.
Bandai Namco also announced the release date for Shadow Labyrinth. In the two-minute trailer, we get a glimpse of the platformer gameplay, which will be available to try out on July 18.
The modern reinterpretation of classic adventures, Dragon Quest 1&2 HD Remake, will release in 2025, but for now, we can enjoy the first teaser trailer.
DotEmu announced Marvel Cosmic Invasion. This is a beat'em up featuring Marvel comic book heroes, styled after classic games. The release is also planned for this year.
The Eternal Life of Goldman is a striking yet dark 2D platformer made in the classic technique of frame-by-frame animation. In it, players explore a hand-drawn archipelago full of secrets and wonders.
A remaster of the spin-off from Shin Megami Tensei, Devil Summoner, called Raidou Remastered, was also announced. Players can expect grim investigations, demon battles, and the mysticism of an alternative Japan. The release will take place on July 19.
What’s a Nintendo presentation without Pokémon?! The upcoming game Pokémon Legends: Z-A teases real-time battles. Additionally, the mega-evolution mechanic will return to the series.
Rhythm game fans might enjoy the newly released Rift of the NecroDancer, a rhythm-based game where the protagonist, Cadence, finds herself in a mysterious world and must battle waves of monsters in musical combat.
And next year, Rhythm Heaven Groove will be released. It’s a musical arcade game featuring fun and addictive mini-games that test players' sense of rhythm.
In addition, several other trailers were shown, along with the announcement of the Virtual Game Card system. You can read about why this is cool in our separate news piece.
