Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 didn’t struggle despite launching in the same week as the Oblivion Remaster, according to Kepler Interactive’s Matt Handrahan. He said the team was confident from the start that the game’s “strong personality” would make it stand out, even next to a massive Bethesda classic.
Handrahan noted that Expedition 33 already had momentum by the time Oblivion dropped, plus it had advantages: a lower price, Game Pass availability, and a lot of buzz. Kepler didn’t see Oblivion as a threat.
New stats from Ampere Analysis support this. In overlapping markets like the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and Europe, 35% of Expedition 33 players also launched Oblivion Remastered. On Xbox, that overlap hit 55%, while Steam saw 22% and PS5 just 16%.
Xbox was Expedition 33’s top platform with 45% of its audience, followed by PS5 (30%) and Steam (25%). Meanwhile, Oblivion also performed best on Xbox (47%), ahead of Steam (34%) and PlayStation (19%).
Interestingly, Xbox users spent less time with both games — Expedition 33 averaged 2.2 hours there, while on PS5 and Steam, it doubled to 4.4 hours. For Oblivion, average session times were around 3.6–3.8 hours on Steam and PS5, and again 2.2 hours on Xbox.
