The remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion had a huge start on Steam, pulling in over 180,000 players just hours after launch. That’s impressive, especially considering the game also released on Game Pass and takes up around 120 GB of space — which slowed downloads for some.

Despite that, players are clearly loving it. The remaster is getting high scores across the board: 4.94 out of 5 on the PlayStation Store, 4.9 on the Microsoft Store, and 82% positive reviews on Steam.
Bethesda marked the launch with a message to fans, revealing they began working on the remaster back in 2021. They said they never planned a full remake — instead, they focused on keeping the original’s feel while upgrading the tech.
The studio worked with Virtuos, the same team helping with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Together, they aimed to make a version of Oblivion that both longtime fans and newcomers would enjoy. Judging by the response so far, it looks like they pulled it off.
