The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, taking place in Alaska, has been completely rebooted, according to a report by Insider Gaming. Previously known under the codename Project Maverick, the game was initially conceived as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, following an internal review, the development underwent significant changes. Despite positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management decided to reallocate most of the resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7). The final nail in the coffin for the multiplayer component was the reassignment of the technical team to other tasks.

Responsibility for the project has now been handed over to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support. Nearly the entire original development team has been shifted to work on the next installment of Far Cry.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 promises to immerse players in an atmosphere of tension and desperation, where time will be the main adversary. The game's plot will revolve around the kidnapping of the protagonist's family by a mysterious conspiracy cult conducting horrifying experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will have to rescue their loved ones within a strict time limit of 72 in-game hours, equivalent to 24 real-time hours. This makes time a crucial gameplay element, adding intensity and urgency.

A standout feature of the game will be a timer integrated into the protagonist's wristwatch, constantly reminding players of the relentlessly ticking clock. This element will not only heighten the sense of urgency but also create additional pressure, forcing players to make quick and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 promises to deliver a unique experience where every second counts, and every choice can have serious consequences.
