Capcom continues to unveil details about the revival of the cult-classic Onimusha series. Ahead of the remastered Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny release scheduled for May 23, 2025, the studio has published a story recap video designed to help new players immerse themselves in the franchise's rich history. The four-minute video concisely covers events from the first two games, highlighting key protagonists, antagonists, and unique gameplay mechanics.
The video begins with Onimusha: Warlords (2001), showcasing its signature gameplay and dark atmosphere of feudal Japan overrun by demonic forces. The focus then shifts to Onimusha 2, introducing the new protagonist - ronin Jubei Yagyu. The second installment's events take place in 1573, thirteen years after the first game. The hero embarks on a quest for vengeance after his village is destroyed and confronts the demonized Nobunaga Oda, who now commands armies of darkness.
While Onimusha 2 can be played without experiencing the first game, Capcom strongly recommends playing both - especially now that a special bundle is being released. This approach will not only provide a deeper appreciation of the Onimusha world but also prepare players for the franchise's upcoming new chapter - Way of the Sword.
