Unknown Worlds shared details about Subnautica 2 following the Xbox Partner Preview presentation where they showed the teaser trailer. The developers have added a Steam page for the game, revealing key features of the survival title.

The events of Subnautica 2 take place on a different planet compared to previous games. This new planet, which was created from scratch, is massive and entirely covered in water. Players will take on the role of a pioneer exploring a distant world, but things don’t go as planned. Despite the setbacks, the ship’s AI insists on continuing the mission. The mysterious ocean-covered planet is dangerous for humans, and players will need to adapt, including through genetic enhancements.

The game features an updated construction system, allowing players to create advanced underwater vehicles, tools, and bases to better survive the hostile environment. Subnautica 2 offers a diverse range of biomes, each with its own ecosystems and unique creatures. Players will have the ability to study mysterious life forms by collecting samples with a special tool. The knowledge gained can be used to modify the player’s own genetics, helping them adapt to the harsh conditions.

Subnautica 2 can be played solo or in co-op mode with up to three more players. The game is set to enter early access in 2025, featuring co-op support from the start, several biomes, a storyline, and a large number of creatures and tools. The developers expect Subnautica 2 to remain in early access for two to three years.
