A week before the highly anticipated release, the embargo on publishing reviews for Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was lifted. Reviews from journalists who were thrilled with the game appeared online. The game scored 93 out of 100 on Metacritic.
Reviewers praised the abundance of available content, the grand scale, outstanding visuals and soundtrack, the combat system, which has become even deeper and more interesting, as well as the characters.
As for drawbacks, many authors noted that the main story has strayed too far from what was established in the first part of the remake. Others added that the sheer amount of available activities can be so overwhelming that it becomes exhausting.
The graphics, particularly in "Performance" mode, were criticized for looking as though one is playing without glasses. Square Enix promised to address this issue, but it seems it has not yet done so.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29th exclusively on PlayStation 5. The exclusivity of the game will last until May 29th, after which it will become available on PC. The exact release date for platforms other than the console remains unknown.
