We’re nearing that time of year again when everyone begins deciding their number one releases of 2024. Among the most high-profile events is undoubtedly The Game Awards. While a large number of nominations doesn’t always translate to obtaining those coveted trophies, those with multiple mentions obviously attract more attention.
In terms of nominations, Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are the leaders with seven each. Surprisingly, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which broke review records this year, received only four nominations. The same number went to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. At the very least, FromSoftware’s creation is a contender for the Game of the Year. Interestingly, if it wins, than this would be a unique case of one title winning two GOTY awards. (The base game achieved it two years ago).
Some short lists might raise eyebrows. If we look at the Best Fighting Game category, the only new traditional fighting game is Tekken 8. The rest are either remakes, re-releases or, in one case, arena fighter.
You can vote on all 29 nominations on the official website until December 11.
