Fun Dog Studios has released The Descent to Averno is Easy , a major update for their extraction-survival game The Forever Winter, currently in early access. This patch introduces significant changes to core mechanics, enhancing both gameplay depth and player experience.
One of the most notable updates is the reworked water system. Instead of being consumed in real-time, water now serves as a currency for accessing different regions. The cost varies randomly each day, and players can trade water with teammates before matches begin. As a result, quest rewards and resource distribution on the map have been adjusted. Players who stockpiled water beforehand will receive a special bonus from the developers in the future.
Combat has also seen substantial improvements. Recoil, accuracy, weapon sway, and handling have all been overhauled, alongside refined aiming mechanics, reload animations, and shotgun balance. These changes already apply to several weapons, with plans to expand them to the entire arsenal in future updates.
Enemy AI has become more realistic, with detection indicators now providing clearer feedback on how close enemies are to spotting the player. Opponents react more intelligently to their surroundings and combat scenarios. Additionally, the spawn system has been revised to prevent enemies from appearing directly in front of or behind players, ensuring fairer encounters.
Two new features add variety to the gameplay: the Stairway to Heaven map and a night mode for Frozen Swamp , which introduces horror-inspired elements to the atmosphere. Other enhancements include an improved looting system, reworked melee combat for enemies, and a selection of new quests to tackle.
