EA shared the first details about the next Battlefield game with IGN, along with a debut concept art of the shooter.
The upcoming Battlefield installment will have a modern setting. The first concept art showcases a city, but EA has not disclosed which specific location this represents. Developers aim to return to the roots of the series in order to create a remarkable shooter. Their primary goal is to develop a Battlefield game that fans will truly love.
Vince Zampella, the head of the Battlefield franchise, described Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 as the peak of the series. The team is drawing inspiration from these games and is determined to deliver a comparable experience. The game will feature classes, and the specialists, who were widely criticized in Battlefield 2042, will not return. Zampella emphasized that classes are fundamental to the series, which is why the developers are bringing them back. He also acknowledged that specialists did not work well in Battlefield 2042.
The game will support 64-player battles, moving away from the 128-player mode that was introduced at the launch of Battlefield 2042. Full-scale development began in early 2024, and Zampella assured that the game is being tested weekly to ensure it is fun and free of critical bugs.
There is no release date for the game yet. IGN speculated that it could launch in 2025, given that full development has been ongoing for at least several months. Zampella does not consider Battlefield 2042 a failed game, but he wants the next installment to be more successful right from the launch, rather than relying on updates to improve it later.
