Nearly two decades after its release, Death Note remains one of the most popular anime series in history. The intense intellectual battle, the search for even the smallest detail to outwit one’s opponent — this makes it an ideal foundation for a social deduction game. Surprisingly, such a project is only now coming to fruition with Death Note Killer Within, which is set to launch next Tuesday.

The game will be multiplayer and reminiscent of Among Us, allowing up to ten players in a session. Players can take on the role of Kira, enacting judgment on others, or L, gathering clues to try to identify Kira. Additionally, there will be Kira’s followers and detectives, with roles randomly assigned at the start of each session.

During the action phase, players collect evidence and complete tasks, while in the discussion phase, they gather to debate who might be Kira. If L is killed during the action phase, Kira’s team wins. However, if Kira is identified during the discussion phase, L and the detectives claim victory.

Players will also be able to customize their characters with hats, masks, glasses, and other accessories. Both text and voice chat will be supported. In addition to PlayStation, the game will be available on PC, and its page is already live on Steam.
