The first release of the RX 9000 series will include the RX 9070 and RX 9060, which will be competitors to the RTX 4070/5070 and RTX 4060/5060. AMD has postponed the announcement of the new graphics cards in order to finalize them and offer more aggressive pricing.
But there's some bad news: leaked drivers confirm that FSR 4 (a new version of scaling technology) will only be supported on RDNA 4, leaving owners of older AMD graphics cards without updates. This could cause discontent, as NVIDIA's competing DLSS 2.0+ works even on older RTX cards.
AMD is also working on Project UDNA, which will combine the RDNA and CDNA architectures for AI and machine learning to compete with NVIDIA's Blackwell.
The Radeon RX 9000 is expected to be officially released in 2025. We'll soon find out if AMD will be able to put up a fight against NVIDIA.
Some claimed to have received the first shipments prior to the official release. AMD refused to confirm the rumors and said the release schedule remained unchanged. NVIDIA probably changed its product positioning strategy to provide competitive pricing after the recent announcement of its RTX 50 series. AMD also denied some reports about the performance of the new graphics cards, suggesting that it may outperform initial estimates.
"We intend to launch a broad variety of graphics cards globally, and the Radeon 9000 series hardware and software look fantastic. When they go on sale in March, we can't wait for gamers to test them out!"
