Indie games don’t have many ways to capture players' attention and make history. Sometimes, a single factor—like an incredible voice actor—can leave a lasting impact. Unfortunately, we recently lost one such iconic voice.

Red Hook Studios, the developer of the cult classic Darkest Dungeon, has shared the tragic news: Wayne June, the voice actor who brought the Ancestor to life, passed away. The studio didn’t share many details but posted a heartfelt farewell message on social media.

Wayne June’s role as the Ancestor in Darkest Dungeon became the most well-known performance of his career. The game’s popularity even led to the creation of a Darkest Dungeon announcer pack for Dota 2, featuring lines recorded by Wayne himself.

This is a great loss for the gaming community, and we extend our condolences to Wayne June’s family, friends, and all Darkest Dungeon fans. We’ve lost a truly remarkable and unique voice that will be deeply missed.
