Pawel Sasko, one of the two game directors for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, visited the Flow Games podcast. The developer talked about CD Projekt RED's transition to Unreal Engine 5, as well as the development and application of artificial intelligence.

Sasko reminded listeners that decisions about engine choice are not made overnight; they are preceded by a research phase where developers assess if the technology fits their needs. He believes that the hardest part is the design, not the technical aspects. Therefore, he doesn't consider the switch to Unreal Engine 5 as critical a decision as it may seem to players.

The developer thinks that the release of Unreal Engine 5 marked an important stage where the game creation process is becoming more accessible and easier, but at the same time, audience expectations are also growing.

As for artificial intelligence, Sasko compares the current situation to the launch of Photoshop and believes the industry has yet to determine whether the technology will have a comparable impact.

The game director feels that while there are many promises and few successes surrounding AI, it's too early to confidently say how the technology will change game development. However, he believes some monotonous processes could be sped up. Regarding creative application, Sasko is skeptical. In his view, if people try to use AI to cut costs, it will only lead to a decline in quality.

It's worth noting that the new Witcher trilogy will be created on Unreal Engine 5.
