Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed the timeframe for the unveiling of the highly anticipated Switch 2, the successor to their popular handheld console. The next-generation device is set to be revealed within the current fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2025.
Furukawa clarified that the upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation scheduled for June will not include details about the Switch 2 or its game lineup. More information about the portable console will be shared at a later date.
Throughout 2024, numerous insiders and media outlets reported that Nintendo would introduce the Switch 2 in the latter half of the year, with sales commencing in 2025. However, the Japanese publication Nikkei later revealed that Nintendo had postponed the new console's release to 2025.
Rumors suggest the new Switch will boast an 8-inch LCD display, 16 GB of RAM, and backward compatibility with games from the first-generation console.
In October 2023, insider SoldierDelta claimed that the Switch 2 would be available in two versions: a standard edition and a "digital" edition, presumably without a cartridge slot. The standard version is expected to retail for $449, while the "digital" version is rumored to be priced at $400.
