The next piece of news might seem like a case of fighting fire with fire, but it actually shows that even the most daring creations have their limits. The publisher of the Dead or Alive game series has removed around 200-300 doujinshi and continues to delete 2,000-3,000 images featuring characters from the fighting games annually.

For those unfamiliar, Dead or Alive is a popular fighting game series known not only for its gameplay but also for its charming heroines, who are often depicted battling in swimsuits. It’s no surprise that fans create "adult" content featuring their favorite characters, but the developers are far from pleased with this trend (although they love fan arts).

This was confirmed by Tomotoshi Nishimura, the head of Koei Tecmo's legal department. The developers refer to the heroines of Dead or Alive as their "daughters." However, their protective attitude toward these virtual characters isn’t the only reason for cracking down on such content—there’s also a financial angle.

Firstly, fan-created images are often used by unscrupulous companies to produce unofficial merchandise, from which Koei Tecmo receives no profit. Secondly, "adult" content featuring the heroines damages the characters' public image.

That said, the total amount of removed content isn’t particularly large, especially considering the suggestive nature of the original material. This suggests that the publisher views such removals as a last resort, only stepping in when all boundaries of decency have been crossed.
